As event registration experts, our goal is to make your life as an event organiser as easy as possible. That means providing you with flexibility and choice to harness the power of our registration system with your favourite platforms.

Custom Integrations

We've made it easy to connect your favourite platforms with our open APIs.

Open API

Put simply, an API allows two different systems to be made to talk to each other. An API is a set of tools to allow developers to build a bridge between two different systems. Most APIs today use RESTful principles, as do ours, and data is exchanged in the JSON format.

So, whatever you are aiming for, talk to us about using our APIs to achieve your event goals.

GET IN TOUCH

To get started, this is the information we'll need from you.

  • Credentials to gain access to or use the API on your platform including user credentials or keys
  • Access to relevant developer documentation on your platform
  • The attendee types and specific data fields required
  • Confirmation of onsite registrations through our system or through your platform
  • Confirmation of your platform webhooks to call our API to transfer the data

This information makes it efficient for us to set up the custom integration.

Why use our API?

When you're already using separate platforms to perform event registration tasks, there is data that needs to be imported and exported. This creates room for errors. Our APIs remove the need for multi-platform importing and exporting, and therefore errors. This also means:

  • Integration is seamless
  • Flexibility is optimised as works with many platforms
  • Data transfer is fast
  • Data management is accurate
  • Solutions can be tailored to your needs
  • App companies can also use them

Want to use our API?

Contact our team to discuss your requirements and they will explain how it works, what is involved and the cost. You will need a developer to help you with this.

Pushing and Pulling

It's important to understand the direction of flow of data.

Pushing data – when a remote system sends data to RefTech.

For example, when you have your own online registration solution and RefTech is providing onsite services such as badging and scanning, then you push the data to us via our API (set up by your developer).

Pulling data – when the data is pulled or 'polled' from RefTech.

For example, when RefTech is providing the online registration and you use a mobile app from a different provider, the delegate data used in the app is pulled from us.

A word of caution

Not all terminology means the same to everyone. This leads to misunderstandings between clients, developers and platforms! We issue documentation for our open API which are clear and straightforward to follow. In addition, we are here to support you to get your integration up and running smoothly. So, if in doubt, get in touch!

Plugging into the API

The API allows seamless data integration. We recommend reviewing the documentation carefully before proceeding to ensure system compatibility and a clear understanding of the process.

Once you're ready to move forward, we will provide you with the API key and set-up access to the platform back-office.

Live Reports

Through our registration platform, EventReference, we can provide a web-based report of your current data. This can be easily integrated by your team or third-party providers. This approach is widely used by event app companies such as VenuIQ and Grip.

The report is provided in XML or JSON format.

Note: You need a developer to implement this, as they will understand the process best. If you're working with a third-party provider, you need to let us know.

Live Report Requirements

We'll need confirmation on the following report specifications.

  • Attendee types required
  • Data fields required
  • Statuses of records required (eg complete, approved, etc)
  • Whether the report should hold records from all sources or only from online or onsite registrations
  • Whether the report should hold all records or only those from the past day, week, or month
