RefTech launches ContactScanning to give organisers deeper event insight and attendees more meaningful, effective networking

RefTech has launched ContactScanning, a new mobile app designed to give event organisers greater visibility over attendee interactions, while enabling transparent, two-way data exchange across events.

Available on both iOS and Android, ContactScanning allows approved users - including exhibitors, distributors and event teams - to scan attendee badges, capture notes and build a detailed, centralised database, fully owned and accessed by the organiser. At the same time, attendees are notified when their badge is scanned and can add their own notes about each interaction.

Unlike traditional lead retrieval tools, which are primarily exhibitor-focused, ContactScanning has been developed to meet the growing demand for organiser-led data collection, while also giving attendees a way to record their own experiences and create more meaningful, effective networking.

Margaret Reeves, Managing Director of RefTech, said: "ContactScanning came from a very real client challenge. They didn't want another layer of complexity or a tool that only worked for part of the audience, they wanted a simple way to understand what was actually happening across their event, across multiple interactions between their distributors and customers."

"What we've created puts the organiser firmly in control of their data, while also giving attendees a more insightful networking experience. It's quick to deploy, easy for teams to use on their own devices, and captures insight that would otherwise be lost. That's incredibly powerful when you're looking to improve event performance or demonstrate value to stakeholders."

Data is collected across multiple touchpoints by sponsors, distributors and event teams. Users download the app, verify access by scanning their own badge, then begin scanning attendees throughout the event, adding notes to create a richer layer of insight. Attendees can also record their own notes, leading to more actionable follow-up and more meaningful interactions.

All data is compiled into a single report for the organiser, while individual users can view only the data they have captured.

ContactScanning allows organisers to:

  • Capture data across multiple touchpoints
  • Understand attendee behaviour and engagement
  • Track activity across stands and teams
  • Build a complete picture of event interactions

For attendees, the app provides a personal record of interactions, with the ability to add private notes for easier follow-up and recall.

Built to work at scale, ContactScanning removes the need for complex setup or separate lead capture systems, offering a streamlined, organiser-first approach.
